Florida Teacher Certification Examinations 

¨Exam Descriptions        ¨Registration Fees        ¨Computer-Based Information
 

Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) is composed of
three separate tests:

bullet Ped   (Professional Education) – Knowledge of pedagogy.   
Ped
test is usually administered in the afternoon.
 
bullet SAE (Subject Area Exam)  -  Knowledge of subject content. Refer to list below.
SAE
test is usually administered in the morning.
 
bullet GK   (*General Knowledge) –  Basic skills test. (Math, Reading, English, Essay)
GK
test usually administered in the morning.
The GK test must be passed by May 1st of the school year the teacher was hired by Brevard Public Schools.


**Note:  A teacher does not need to take the GK test for certification if he or she took and passed all subtests of the CLAST before July 1, 2002.
FTCE  and FELE Registration Fees
 

 Effective September 1, 2009, Registration Fees increased for FTCE and FELE.

General Knowledge Test, First Time Registration $130.00
     General Knowledge Test Retake $150.00
Professional Education Test, First Time Registration $150.00
     Professional Education Test Retake $170.00
Subject Area Examination, First Time Registration $200.00
     Subject Area Examination Retake $220.00
Florida Educational Leadership Examination, First Time Registration (FELE) $200.00
     Florida Educational Leadership Examination Retake (FELE) $220.00

  You must have a Master's Degree in the subject area to take the following computer based tests:

  • Reading (K-12)
  • School Psychologist (PK-12)
  • Speech-Language Impaired (K-12)
  • Florida Ed. Leadership (FELE)
