As a substitute, you may not bring personal items into the classroom such as personal laptop computers, blue tooth devices, cell phones (please turn them off) or ANY other electronic devices for your personal use.
As a substitute, you
may not
use any school
district computer unless it is to be used as
part of the lesson plan that you are
required to follow. |

A Substitute works on
an on-call basis, as-needed, with no guarantee of work days or
hours.
A
Substitute is an hourly employee and is not paid for their lunch
time There are no benefits available for substitutes. |

As a substitute, your job is to follow all lesson plans and instructions that have been left by the classroom teacher and to monitor the students. You may never bypass the classroom teachers instructions. |

Your MIC Pay Statement account is used to
update your SmartFindExpress account
nightly? That means that if your phone number and address are not correct in your MIC Pay Statement account, the information will not be correct in your SmartFindExpress account. Always keep your MIC Pay Statement account up-to-date. This will ensure that your correct phone number is being called by SmartFindExpress. |

The SmartFind Express (SFE) will call for substitutes right up to the beginning of the absence! Please remember to gage your times - if you receive a call close to the begin time of the absence and you live too far away.... |

If you do not answer your phone or if you hang up on three calls being made to you by SmartFindExpress in one day, SmartFind will drop your number for the rest of that day. |

****Substitutes
can be Specified (requested) for an absence That means that the absence is only available to the requested substitute until 6 pm the evening before the absence. At that time, because SmartFind could not reach the substitute, the absence opens up to the rest of the substitute pool. If you do not go online or call your SmartFind account to take your absence, you may lose it! Unless you have received an email from SmartFind, the assignment doesn't belong to you yet.... |

It is your responsibility to update your phone number, address, and/or email in your MIC account. Name changes require a new Social Security card in the new name only. |

Any experience gained as a substitute teacher will not count towards experience for pay purposes if hired as a full-time regular employee. |

How do I cancel my absence coverage? | You may cancel the absence in SmartFind 24 hours more from of the beginning of the absence. If it is 24 hours or within the 24 hour timeframe, please call the school as soon as possible - leave a message if you have to but let them know that you will not be there! |

Yes! By becoming a substitute for Brevard Public Schools, you have agreed to and are required to use SmartFindExpress. Failure to do so may result in the inactivation of your substitute account. |

Can I reject absences? | Yes! If you do not want an absence, you may reject it - No penalties will accrue! |

Can I cancel absences? | Yes! But only up to 24 hours before the absence begins. Once the absence is within 24 hours of the absence begin time, you must contact the school to cancel. |

Can I substitute at Charter and/or Private Schools? |
Charter and/or Private Schools are not
part of Brevard Public Schools. |

What is the minimum number of days that I must substitute each school year? |
You must substitute at least 80 hours each year to maintain your substitute status. - We do not include charter or private schools. |

How can I cancel an absence I have already accepted in SmartFindExpress? | You can cancel an absence in SmartFindExpress up to 24 hours prior to the absence. If you must cancel an absence due to an emergency within 24 hours of the absence, please contact the school as soon as possible. Leave a message if it is after hours. |

What does it mean to be excluded? |
To be excluded by a school means that you have been sent an official letter from that school, telling you that you are not welcome to substitute at that school any more. |

How many exclusions can I receive? |
If you are excluded from 3 schools, you will be terminated as a substitute. You will receive an official letter from the district. |

Where do I find my first paycheck? |
Because it may take up to 35 to 45 business days to establish your direct deposit, your first paycheck may be a paper check and is sent to your home school for pickup. |

Where is my pay check stub and what is MIC? |
MIC is the payroll program that allows you to view your pay check
stubs to help you determine if you have been paid correctly.
To access your account, click
MIC. Remember!! It is your responsibility to keep your phone number, address and email up to date in your MIC account and also in your SMARTFIND account. |

What do I do if I have not been paid correctly? |
Each school is responsible for their own substitute payroll. Substitutes are encouraged to maintain their own records and the associated job numbers. SmartFindExpress is an excellent history tool to help you determine which school may not have paid you correctly. When you determine where the discrepancy is, contact that school directly to discuss it. Any discrepancies should first be verified with the school site at which the discrepancy exists. In the event of an error, the school will submit payroll correction. |

What are the pay rates? |
If you substitute as a substitute teacher, your hourly rate is based on your level of education up to a Bachelor's degree. If you substitute as a classroom assistant, the pay rate is ALWAYS minimum wage. For more information regarding substitute salary, see 'Substitute Pay Rates'. |

How do I obtain a badge? | Substitutes are issued a temporary badge by the school they are subbing for each day. You can ask for this badge when you sign in at the schools' front office. |

How do I add or remove schools from my account? |
Send an email to Aliece Kobilis to request that schools be added or deleted from your SFE account. |
