Substitute teachers are crucial to providing support to Brevard Public Schools.
Each day that the substitute teacher is in the classroom,
is a day of education for our students.
Your work plays a vital role in maintaining continuity of instruction and a positive learning environment.

Brevard Public Schools expects our substitute teachers to be professional and prepared.
It is expected that the substitute will be confidential and will feel like a part of the school District, be loyal to it, and support our mission to educate children to the best of our ability.
We also expect them to be competent, patient, resourceful, independent, and an advocate for children.
 

Mims Elementary is currently looking for a temporary Instructional Assistant through the month of September.
Minimum requirements:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent or special diploma required.
2. Minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited educational institution with at least 30 semester hours in general education core curriculum and/or child development and education or successful completion of the ParaPro Test with a score of 464 or higher.
3. Experience working with children.
4. Valid Florida Driver License.

New for the 14-15 school year

 

     Thank you for the service that you, as a Substitute, have provided to the children of Brevard County.  Substitute teachers are crucial to providing support to Brevard Public Schools.

 

     Beginning this school year, Substitute Teachers ONLY shall be now be paid for a minimum of 4 hours per day (if you worked 4 hours or less) or for a full day which is now 7.5 hours with 30 minutes of lunch outside of the paid time.

 

     Teacher Substitutes are expected to stay and work as assigned by the principal or the principalís designee in order to be paid for the full absence whether it is 4 hours or the full day of 7.5 hours.  Substitutes will be paid for only the hours they actually worked if they choose to leave earlier than the designated absence end time.  The substitute hourly rate has not changed.

 

Substitute Teachers Only:

Hourly

With a High School Diploma

   $  8.25

With an Associateís Degree

   $  8.75

              $  35.00

              $  65.63

with a Bachelorís Degree or Higher

   $12.50

Retired Teachers

   $16.25

              $  65.00

The principal or the principal's designee may assign the substitute to other appropriate duties.

 

The principal or the principal's designee shall determine whether substitutes will be responsible for the extra-curricular duties assigned to the regular teacher.


Each substitute shall leave for the returning teacher a summary of the work covered and work assigned to students.

 

Substitute Classroom Assistants will remain as an hourly employee and will continue to be paid as such with 30 minutes of lunch outside of the paid time.  The changes to the Teacher Substitute day do not apply to a Substitute Classroom Assistant.
